If Bets

SportsbookGurus.com - Sportsbook Wager Types - If Bets

By now you have many of the various betting form figured out like spreads and over/unders. At Sportsbook Gurus, we want all of our loyal customers to know how to bet correctly and efficiently. We are committed on explaining the fine points of how to bet successfully. So you probably also know how to Teaser bet and Parlay bet but do you know how to “if” bet?

If Bets are a win only form, of online betting, that is very similar to a Parlay found at most Online Sportsbooks. It gives you the option to bet on multiple teams where you have to win to continue the “if” bet. Here is where the “if” bet comes into play, when and if you win your first bet, you have to risk your total payout from the first win on the 2nd bet. Once you lose a bet, you are subtracted the total payout received from the previous loss. There is one stipulation to this because you can pick two types of action when you bet during If Betting, “action” or “if win only.” “If win only” means that the 2nd part of the bet will happen if the first part of the bet is a win. “Action” selection means that the 2nd part of the bet is placed no matter what (win, push, no action or canceled) happens to the first part.

Let me show an example for clarification. You decide to bet the spread on Baltimore Ravens who are favorites at -7, $110 to win $100. Your second bet is Indianapolis Colts at -14, $210 to win $190. If the Ravens win, you will win $100 that goes straight to the 2nd bet, so $210 is wagered on the Colts. If the Colts win you get $190, so you have $290. Now let us say the Ravens lose the first game, you bet is cancelled and you are down -$110. Let us say the Ravens win but the Colts lose, you would still win $100 on the Ravens, but would lose $210 on the Colts. So basically the If Bets apply to your first bet and if it wins or not.

If your first bet hits, your second bet is wagered with your originally bet and your winning amount on your first bet. So the worst that could happen if you win your first bet is that your will lose $110. It doubles your 2nd bet, with your 1st bets winnings. Let me give you one more example. With our 1st bet, we decide to pick the Dallas Cowboys at -3 and with our 2nd bet we take the Atlanta Falcons with -7. We lay down $55 on the line to win $50. Well our first bet hits and we now have $105 riding on the Falcons to win $95. Perfect scenario, that hit too so we won a total $200. How about if the Cowboys covered and the Falcons lost, you would lose the originally bet of $55 and your winnings of $50 to essentially give you -$105. Now remember if you were to select the Action (win, tie, push or cancel) option your second bet would go with the originally wager if your first bet wins, ties, pushes, or cancels.
